Sealer Pump
A Smarter Way to Supply
Automotive paint shops have many challenges with high
viscosity systems. Robotic applications have increased
production rates, but they demand higher flow rates. Weight
requirements for vehicles have decreased, but this requires
use of more abrasive light weight glass bead materials. The
increased flow rates of more abrasive materials put a strain on
traditional systems requiring additional pumps to be added.
Unfortunately, more pumps mean increased maintenance
times, costs, safety concerns and downtime.
Current pump technologies have power limitations that will
require numerous pumps to be used to meet process pressure
and flow demands. Designing and maintaining systems that use
multiple pumps feeding one process is a challenge.
Balancing pump operation requires daily manual interaction,
floor space requirements are increased, preventive maintenance
needs increase and potential for quality issues increase.
Compressed air as a power source also hampers abilities to
control process equipment or monitor real-time operations. The
inability to accurately track flow rate, to increase power when
consumption occurs, to communicate status to automation
equipment … all lower end user’s ability to achieve cost
effective, robust and repeatable results.

Binks
Binks has reimagined the entire material supply system
— from supply pumps to booster stations to dosing
systems — and we are introducing the first members of
an extensive family of electric, high-pressure, high-flow
pumps for the automotive paint shop.
Pneumatic pumps lose pressure capability as flow
demand increases. The air motor cannot increase power
when this flow demand occurs. In contrast, the SmartHP™
Electric Sealer Pump will maintain pressure as demand
for flow increases. The electric motor can increase the
power supply to match the demand.
Doing More with Less
How are we able to do more with fewer pumps? We dared
to be different. Instead of using many small pneumatic
or electric pumps in parallel to generate the flows and
pressures demanded by modern processes, we reimagined
the traditional supply pump as a single, powerful, scalable
electric pump.
The first entrants in the new SmartHP™ line are designed to
replace numerous pneumatic pumps. Using one working
SmartHP™ Pump and another on standby, for example, our
approach guarantees repeatable production outcomes.
Instead of adding more and more small pumps, each of
which requires maintenance, spares and daily adjustments
to meet process requirements.

Pump design and specifications
1 Patented core technologies shared with low-pressure
Binks® SmartHP™ Pumps for paint circulation (the proven
constant velocity cam-driven design eliminates pressure
winks and ensures smooth operation).
2 Electric motors eliminate many drawbacks of air motors,
including compression losses, size limitations and
icing, while delivering significant cost savings from the
elimination of compressed air production.
3 Due to multiple fluid sections sharing a drive, the lower
packings, internal ball checks and cylinders are eliminated
as wear parts, providing greater uptime and easier access
to components for in situ maintenance (higher MTTF and
lower MTTR).
4 Fluid displacement is directly related to motor Hz operation.
Allows ability to control flow rate independent of system
pressure and material viscosity. Provides ability to
precondition material prior to production start up.
5 Integral controls allow for multi-pump operation.
Controls allow for up to four pumps to operate under one
synchronized control process. All pumps share % workload
based on user’s input allowing for automatic balancing
and optimized stand-by operations for trouble-free
production.
6 Gateway communication allows for communication to
line PLC. Realtime process data can be communicated,
collected to plant PLC or via 4G router allowing for remote
support if powered. Real-time off-site support during start
up debugging processes can be a helpful tool.

Industry 4.0 ready controls allow for multi-pump
synchronized operation. A four-pump system could have
a maximum flow capability of 80 LPM and operate in flow,
pressure or combined mode.
All workload is shared at user defined percentages allowing for
built in redundancy ensuring production supply is never at risk.
Gateway Anybus communication to plant PLC allows for
easy integration into smart factory efficiencies. Process
operation data collection can be communicated to production
engineering team members providing oversight that best
system efficiencies are always being maintained. Gateway 4G
router allows for remote support capabilities. Router is optional
and is not required for operation but can be a very helpful tool
during startup processes in remote areas. Having option to
connect router if issues occur is a very effective tool when site
support is needed as well.
Ability to control flow rate independent of pressure and
material viscosity provides opportunity to condition of material
prior to beginning of shift production. This process can ensure
material integrity is consistent in the beginning of the shift as
well as mid shift or end of day.
The Binks IntelliSupply™ controls solution is engineered to
connect, control, monitor and communicate data ensuring the
highest level of production and repeatability is maintained.
