Challenge

As a leading insulation construction provider, SPAAR was driven to grow its spray foam insulation services in the Calgary area and needed to expand its team of professional sprayers. Having seen the technical innovations of some of the first Binks IntelliSpray units, Cliff Francis, CEO at SPAAR, recognized the equipment’s potential to shorten the learning curve for new team members to become proficient sprayers.

Solution

SPAAR made the switch to Binks IntelliSpray systems about five years ago with one of the company’s first beta units. Today, SPAAR has ten units at work in the spray foam insulation side of their business, which specializes in attic insulation upgrades, basement insulation, and garage insulation.

In addition to the IS40 and IS30 proportioner machines, SPAAR’s equipment line includes the Binks QuickHeat Hose System and ST1 Spray Foam Gun.

From a shop owner perspective, one of the most significant advantages of the IntelliSpray system is its ability to be consistently and accurately on ratio, which leads to excellent ROI.

We’re never off ratio – everything’s perfect all the time. So, the ROI is tremendous,” explains Francis. “When you can introduce that kind of certainty into your estimating programs, where you know exactly where you’re going to be at any given time with materials, it just makes it way more profitable.”


Since acquiring their first IntelliSpray unit, Francis and SPAAR have built a great rapport with Binks and its leadership. Francis says the professional friendships and shared drive to succeed has had an influence on the growth of his company and the way he does business. “I could see their vision,” he adds. Thanks to SPAAR’s training and the consistent, quality spray performance and user-friendly controls of the IntelliSpray system, Francis has been able to see new sprayers succeed quickly.

“We’ve had guys come in as laborers and three months later they’re competent sprayers.”

The Binks ST1 Spray Gun has also been a game changer for SPAAR. “It makes it really easy for the guys to get going. It’s really a time saver there too,” said Francis.

Remote Capabilities

Francis sees the IntelliSpray system, with its remote diagnostics capabilities, as a way to be able to troubleshoot any equipment issues and ensure the accuracy of the material ratio. In fact, it’s one of the big selling features of the system.

We use it every day, we pretty much have it on the screen in the office throughout the day.”
