1936
In 1936, facing high paint costs during the Depression, Harold Ransburg developed the “No. 1 Process” by combining a radiological transformer with a DeVilbiss spray gun—pioneering electrostatic painting to reduce material waste.

1936 – No. 1 Process: Electrostatics (Ransburg)
Harold Ransburg pioneers electrostatic painting during the Depression by pairing a radiological transformer with a DeVilbiss gun, slashing paint waste and increasing transfer efficiency.

1998 – Brands Unite
Binks, DeVilbiss, and Ransburg officially come together, forming a global finishing technology leader.

FAQ
Electrostatic powder coating is best for conductive part applications that can tolerate curing temperatures of around 200°C or 380°F. It is widely used across various industries due to its resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and wear. These include, agricultural, construction and earthmoving equipment, architectual materials, industrial equipment, electronics, appliances, medical equipment, and more.
Binks equipment is compatible with many medium- and high-viscosity solutions such as lubricants, sealants, mastics, adhesives, epoxies, putties, and adhesives. While electrostatic powder coating equipment may have a higher upfront cost, operating it is generally more efficient and cost-effective than traditional liquid coating methods—allowing you to recoup costs and start saving. The electrostatic charge improves powder adhesion, reducing material waste and overspray. This results in higher transfer efficiency and excellent contouring effect—meaning less powder is needed for the same coverage. Additionally, it requires less labor and rework compared to non-electrostatic applications, further lowering operational costs. Furthermore, non-applied powder particles can be reclaimed up to 97%, under certain conditions, offering a valuable return on investment.
Our systems are engineered to handle challenging surfaces, ensuring even coverage in deep recesses, sharp corners, and complex geometries. Whether you’re dealing with Faraday cage effects or fine details, our equipment optimizes powder application for a uniform, high-quality finish.
With fast color change technology and a streamlined application process, our equipment helps you move from one job to the next with minimal downtime. Whether you’re switching colors frequently or handling high-volume production, you’ll spend less time adjusting and more time coating.
Designed with efficiency in mind, our equipment is intuitive to use, reducing the learning curve for new operators. Features like process tracking and user-friendly controls make it easy to maintain consistency without extensive training.
Yes! Unlike liquid coatings that release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), our electrostatic powder coating systems operate with little to no harmful emissions. This improves air quality in your facility. Plus, with minimal overspray and easy powder recovery, your workspace stays cleaner and more efficient.
